The Saline County Sheriff’s Office said a 57-year-old man was taken into custody after an overnight standoff with shots fired at deputies and other law enforcement officers.

Deputies were called to a home on South Woodward Road, east of Salina, shortly before midnight Thursday night.   A woman ran from the home and shots were heard, and then more shots were fired at deputies.

Salina police, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents were called to the scene, and there were several instances of shots being fired, with armored vehicles hit several times.  No shots were fired by law enforcement officers.

A search warrant was issued and officers sent chemical irritants into the home, then they went inside and took the man into custody.  The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and he was booked into the Saline County jail for a number of felony charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, and six counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
