A Kansas WW2 Veteran died peacefully at his home on Christmas Eve. 103-year-old Olen Mitchell was born in Oklahoma in 1921, spent time in Elkhart, and then moved to Hutchinson, where he worked at the local Dillons store. He was drafted in 1943 after the Pearl Harbor attack. He was shipped to Italy where he served as a rifleman, receiving a Purple Heart after being shot while fighting the Germans on the front lines in Italy. This past summer, Mitchell traveled to France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
