The Harvey County Health Department will close to the public for the next week to get ready for an upcoming remodeling project. It will be closed from now through January 3rd, and it will reopen January 6th for regular business hours.
The Department is on the second floor of a three story building at 215 South Pine in Newton. During the closure, equipment and technology will be moved to the third floor, where the Health Department will operate as renovations begin in January on the second floor. The Department will move back to the second floor in about three months.
The remodeling is part of a larger project that will move additional Harvey County departments into the Pine Street building, and that will help with space needs at the Harvey County Courthouse.
The county had previously rented the second floor of the Pine Street building for Health Department programs and services, and the Harvey County Commission approved the purchase of the building in November, 2022. The Commission has accepted a bid from Vogts Construction for the $1.8 million remodeling project.
