Property tax bills have been mailed in Sedgwick County, but the county treasurer’s office said a number of them have been returned because of bad addresses.
County Treasurer Brandi Baily told County Commissioners this week that her office had at least seven trays of statements that had been returned, most of them with no forwarding address. She said anyone who has not received their tax bill should contact her office.
Baily said the bills have a section that allows taxpayers to go paperless, to have their tax bill sent electronically. There’s a registration code with the bill that will have to be submitted with the request to have electronic statements.
There have also been questions about an increase in the annual solid waste fee with the property taxes this year. Baily said there is a section on the tax statement that explains the solid waste fees, and there’s also a QR code that will link to more information. The fees go to a variety of solid waste programs, including collection of tires and electronics.
Tax payments can be made online, by phone, or by going to a tag office or the Treasurer’s Office. Baily said there have been lines out the door since the bills were mailed out, so taxpayers should be ready for a wait to get in to pay their taxes.
The deadline for the first half tax payment is December 20th, and the second half payment should be made by May 10th.
Baily said there is information with the tax bills on homestead tax credits and how taxpayers can apply for them.
