Today, we salute 104-year-old WWII Veteran Ira “Ike” Schab Jr. Ira was one of the lucky few on board the USS Dobbin on December 7th, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Tuesday, he landed in Honolulu, ahead of the 83rd commemoration of the attack. His plane was met on the runway with water cannons and fanfare and at the gate, sounds of the Navy’s U.S. Pacific Fleet Band filled the air. When asked what he remembers from that day, he quickly answered, “Oh, being scared, more than anything else. Wondering about my brothers. Where they were.” He returned this year because, as he put it, he’s one of very few left, and they deserve to be recognized and honored. Thank you for making the journey, Ira, and THANK YOU for your service.
