Tyson Foods has announced plans to close its plant in Emporia in February, putting more than 800 people out of work.

The news was delivered Monday in a notice to employees.  The company plans to close its plant on February 14th and operations will be consolidated at the Tyson plant in Holcomb, in southwest Kansas.

The City of Emporia, Lyon County, the United Way of the Flint Hills and a number of local agencies are working together to help the workers affected by the closure.

The plant originally opened in the 1960s as an Armour plant, and it was later purchased by Tyson.
