A Kansas man died Tuesday afternoon after his pickup crashed through a guardrail and overturned in the Ninnescah River near Belle Plaine, in Sumner County.
The crash was reported around 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 81. A pickup was traveling east when it went off a bridge over the river and landed upside down. The Kansas Highway Patrol said two passersby helped get the man out of the truck and he was taken by Mulvane EMS to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was identified as 73-year-old man Edward Fitzpatrick of Neosho Falls.
The KHP is investigating the crash.
