The Kansas Highway Patrol reported fewer arrests for DUI during the Thanksgiving weekend, but there was a sharp increase in speeding citations.
KHP troopers worked one fatal non-DUI related crash involving one non-DUI related fatality over the holiday reporting period. That happened in Nemaha County on Saturday.
Troopers wrote 1,135 speeding citations, compared to 621 during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2023. There were also 1,042 speed warnings issued, which was also a sharp increase from the previous year.
The reporting period for the holiday ran from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27th through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 1st.
