Wichita police said they arrested a 21-year-old man on Monday after an investigation found that he had been communicating with a runaway 14-year-old from Kentucky.

Police said they were contacted by officials in Murray, Kentucky with information that the teen may be in Wichita.  Officers went to a home in the 2300 block of North Woodlawn and detectives with the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit began conducting interviews.   They learned that a Wichita man was communicating with the Kentucky teen and arranging for the teen to travel to Wichita.

The man was arrested and booked into jail for charges including indecent liberties with a child, contributing to a child’s misconduct, and interference with parental custody.  Information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.

Officers with the Police Department’s NET Team found the teenager wandering in the area.  Detectives are continuing their investigation and they are in contact with law enforcement officers in Kentucky.    Police due to the nature of the case, only limited information can be released.
