Today, we salute 99-year-old World War II Veteran Ben Teevan. Ben tells many stories about his time serving aboard the battleship USS Alabama. He was a first loader on the ship that played an integral part in the Pacific Theater. When he tells stories, he talks about how he can still hear the sound of the casings flying out of the back of the mount and bouncing around. And a few weeks ago, he returned home to Mobile, Alabama, a hero’s welcome. That is where the USS Alabama has been restored and is a museum. He made the 900-mile journey to walk that deck one final time and, with a tear in his eye, said, “It’s good to be home.” Congratulations on your homecoming, Ben, and THANK YOU for your service.
