Today the AWESOME is in Las Vegas. Melissa hadn’t seen her father, David, or even known his whereabouts for decades. Over 20 years ago, David was in a terrible car accident that left him with serious mental and physical disabilities, leading his family to relinquish him to state care. For the last 46 years, he moved from facility to facility, was once homeless and seemingly forgotten about. Lately, he had refused to eat, having lost his will to live. Doctors were able to find his daughter Melissa, who flew to be with her dad. From the moment she walked into the room, he lit up, and his mood changed, clearly showing he had never forgotten he had a daughter. It was a visit that restored his will, and he attempted to eat 3 meals that day for the first time in 2 weeks. Melissa is now making arrangements to move her dad to Florida to live with her. When a daughter helps her dad find the will to go on….that’s AWESOME.
