The Kansas Department of Transportation said westbound Interstate 70 has been closed from Goodland west to Denver, Colorado because of a winter storm that has brought snow to the area.
KDOT officials said because of severe winter conditions, the interstate could be closed into Saturday or longer. They said it may become necessary to close more sections of the interstate or other highways in northwest Kansas to keep motorists from becoming stranded as hotels and truck parking facilities fill up.
Drivers are urged to buckle up and be alert for changing weather conditions.
Extreme northwest Kansas could get 2-4 inches of snow from the storm, with areas in northeast Colorado getting an additional 7 to 14 inches. Limon, Colorado was reporting 14 inches on the ground while Aurora had 11 inches.
