Today, we salute Vietnam Veteran Dan Werner. Dan was 18 when he joined the Army in 1968; in 1969, everything changed when a mine detonated, and he lost the lower part of his left leg. Fast forward to 7 years ago when Dan became part of a study using a neuroprosthesis, using sensors that were attached to the back of his thigh; the new prosthetic was able to create new sensations and feelings that proved to improve Dan’s stability, and balance, and confidence. Thanks to the Advanced Platform Technology Center, a Department of Veterans Affairs rehabilitation research and development center in Cleveland, Dan was able to feel his foot hitting the ground for the first time since 1969. Thank you for helping advance the research Dan and THANK YOU for your service.
