With strong winds, blowing dust, smoke from wildfires and hazy conditions, the City of Wichita issued an air quality advisory on Tuesday, warning residents that the air quality had reached an unsafe level.
The Air Quality Index for the city was 154, considered to be unsafe for people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens. Residents are being urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, to keep any outdoor activities short, and to consider moving physical activities indoors or reschedule them.
The city closed the Brooks Landfill at noon Tuesday because of windy conditions.
