Residents in the area near South Lakes Park in Wichita are expressing concern over the number of homeless people camping in the park. Recently, John Richards said he came across a tent and a campfire as he was walking his dog. Later that day, Richards says the tent was gone, but there were trees cut down and there was litter where the tent was pitched. The city is actively working on the issue of homelessness, which includes the opening of an emergency shelter in late November and the expected multi-agency center that is slated to open in April. If you’re concerned about camping near you, go to wichita.gov and click on the “report an issue” tab.
