A branch library in Wichita will be closed for several months to allow for some major renovations.
The Maya Angelou Branch at 3051 East 21st will be closed beginning Tuesday, October 1st. The branch will undergo a complete interior remodel as part of the Wichita Public Library’s master plan to enhance services at all locations. The renovations will include moving the circulation desk, adding a small meeting room, and adding a sunroom for people to sit and read or work. Updates will include new shelving, furnishing, fixtures, technology, and collection facilities.
Customers will be directed to the Rockwell Branch at 5939 East 9th. Customers can also go to the Advanced Learning Library, the Evergreen Branch or the Walters Branch.
The entire project is expected to reopen in late February, and it’s expected to have expanded hours of operation temporarily to help with access as other library branches are renovated.
