Police arrested an unidentified man after a shot was fired at an unmarked police car, leading to a four-hour standoff in a north Wichita neighborhood.
Police said an officer was conducting surveillance Saturday evening on a home in the 1400 block of North Grove in connection with some recent robberies. A car that left the home was stopped by officers, but the unmarked car remained to continue the surveillance. Someone walked up and looked into the car, then walked back toward the home. A short time later a second man appeared in the driveway and fired one shot from a rifle at the police car. No one was hurt.
The man locked himself inside the home and refused to come out, and a SWAT team was called to the scene. The 54-year-old man surrendered to police around 11:30 p.m. and officers recovered a rifle.
