The Wichita Art Museum is opening an exhibit by Oklahoma-based artist Robert Peterson.  It’s the first major museum exhibition of work by Peterson, a contemporary artist who lives in Lawton, Oklahoma.

The exhibit, “Robert Peterson – Somewhere in America” features 46 paintings showing African American individuals, couples and families  in everyday moments, celebrating the Black experience as he knows it.    Peterson designed the exhibit to tell a story of family, community and legacy, connecting across lines of class, gender, age, and race and encouraging viewers to see something of themselves in the works.

Peterson began painting in 2012 as he was recovering from hip surgery, and he is now considered to be a rising star with paintings in major museums and prominent private collections across the U.S.

The exhibit opens Saturday, September 28th and runs through January 5th, 2025.
