The Kansas Highway Patrol said a wrong-way vehicle struck a pickup head-on and caused it to collide with another pickup Friday evening in east Wichita.  The driver of the SUV and the two people in the first pickup were killed.  Three people in the second pickup were injured.

The crash was reported around 7:25 p.m. Friday on K-96 near 13th Street north.  Troopers said an SUV was going east in the westbound lanes of K-96.  It collided with a pickup, causing it to spin and collide with a second westbound pickup.  The first pickup caught fire and came to rest on the north shoulder, while the SUV came to rest in one of the westbound lanes.  The second pickup was pulling a trailer, and the impact of the crash caused the trailer to be torn off the hitch.  The second pickup then skidded across the median and came to rest in an eastbound lane of K-96, while the trailer ended up on its side in the north ditch.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 48-year-old Amanda Fleming of Wichita.  She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two people in the first pickup were also killed. They were identified as 31-year-old Randall Hendrickson and his 11-year-old son, Eli, of Rose Hill.   A GoFundMe page was established to help the Hendrickson family with funeral expenses.

Three men in the second pickup were reported to have minor injuries.   They are two men from McPherson, ages 67 and 59, and a 61-year-old man from Windom.

Emergency crews were on the scene for several hours after the crash, and the highway was closed to traffic.
