Two people were taken to a hospital and four others were injured after an explosion at a concession trailer at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

Fair officials said witnesses reported an explosion around 6:30 Tuesday evening in the “Fry Shack” food trailer at 500 20th Avenue on the Fairgrounds.

Two people were taken to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, where they were treated and released.   Four others had minor injuries, refusing treatment at the scene.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and Hutchinson fire investigators determined that the cause of the explosion “was an overpressure of a canned food product which had been stored in the vicinity of a food warmer. The canned food item got too hot, causing the overpressure event to occur.”
