Rotary Club of Wichita has announced a collaboration with the Exploration Place museum to highlight the state flower of Kansas.
The Sunflower Meadow will be one of ten unique and meticulously landscaped playgrounds that make up Exploration Place’s new $25 million “destination playscape”– a 6.5 acre project. It is designed by Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects and uses equipment manufactured by the Danish company Monstrum.
The playground will explore the life cycle of a sunflower, from seed to bloom and beyond. Designed for children ages 2 to 5, it will have elements like bee bouncers, leaf climbers, balance logs, flower spinners, and more, offering young visitors a playful way to learn about nature.
The “destination playscape” will have ten individual playgrounds, each one emphasizing an element of Kansas culture. It’s expected to open in the fall of 2025.
