Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags to fly at half staff at all state buildings, grounds and facilities, in honor of a state lawmaker and a former appeals judge who recently passed away.

Flags will be flown at half staff from sunup to sundown on Saturday, August 31st in honor of the former Chief Judge of the Kansas Court of Appeals, Gary Rulon.  He died on August 21st in Olathe at the age of 83.  He had served 23 years on the Court of Appeals, including ten years as Chief Judge.

Flags will be at half staff until the end of the day September 7th, in honor of Kansas House member Marvin Robinson II.  The Wyandotte County lawmaker died suddenly at age 67.  He was known for securing funding to preserve the Quindaro Ruins, an historically significant Kansas stop on the Underground Railroad.
