With temperatures reaching triple digits, there were more than a hundred people who received medical treatment for heat-related conditions at the McConnell Air Force Base open house and air show on Saturday.

The base’s chief of public affairs, John Van Winkle, said in a press release that 115 people received medical treatment and most of them were for heat-related conditions.  There were 17 people who were taken to hospitals.

Van Winkle said the base took a number of measures to help staff and visitors deal with the heat.   The steps included allowing visitors to bring in their own water containers, plus offering free water refill stations, cooling tents and even having a misting tent set up. Additionally, a number of medical personnel from McConnell and volunteers from surrounding medical agencies were on site in first aid tents and around the airshow area.

The Frontiers in Flight Open House and Airshow was canceled Sunday after strong thunderstorms moved through the area with 50 mile-an-hour winds caused damage to some services, affecting the ability to conduct a safe airshow.
