The Wichita Animal Action League has received a grant to help in providing veterinary care to the Hilltop neighborhood.

The $50,000 grant is from PetSmart Charities.  It’s an incubator grant program that supports veterinary programs that are targeted toward historically excluded communities across the U.S.

WAAL operations manager Amy Delgado said in a press release that the grant will be a transformative opportunity for the agency and the Hilltop community.  She said, “Providing affordable and accessible veterinary care is vital for the well-being of both pets and their families. This grant will enable us to address the unique challenges faced by our community and ensure that every pet receives the care they need, regardless of financial or geographical barriers.”

PetSmart Charities has committed $100 million over the next five years toward improving access to veterinary care. The Incubator grants focus on communities that have not had access to community supports, including veterinary services.   The organization said nearly one in three Americans will face challenges in accessing even basic preventative care such as spay/neuter procedures, vaccinations and annual exams.
