Severe thunderstorms brought strong winds and heavy rains to central and south central Kansas early Tuesday.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Rice, Reno and McPherson counties around 3:30 a.m. and the storms moved east into Harvey, Sedgwick, and Marion counties with wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour.

There were reports of tree limbs and power lines down.  Evergy reported over 8,000 customers without power in south central Kansas, with more than 7,000 customers affected in the Wichita area at the peak of the storm.   Crews were restoring power to the affected areas throughout the day, and less than 200 customers were still without power as of Tuesday evening.

Flood warnings were issued for Sedgwick, McPherson, Marion and Chase counties because of localized flooding.  Rainfall amounts ranged from one to two inches, with just over an inch reported in Wichita.

Street flooding was reported in Emporia, forcing the closure of municipal court for the day.  A flash flood warning was issued for Lyon County after storms moved through the area.
