The sky over Wichita became hazy Wednesday afternoon when smoke from rangeland fires was carried across south central Kansas.
Officials in Elk County reported a controlled burn over a 1,300-acre area that was creating the smoke, and the National Weather Service said controlled burns in the Flint Hills also brought smoke into the area.
The smoke was reported in Sedgwick and Butler counties, and it began to clear out in the late afternoon and evening hours.
