The Wichita school district held a rally at Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday to celebrate the beginning of a new school year.
This was the first “Rally on the River” to be held by Wichita Public Schools, and Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld called it a pep rally to “bring our staff together, in one location, to celebrate who we are, what we do for kids, and how our strategic plan will guide us to focus on student success. We’re a large district, but we want to make sure everyone feels like they belong, which is one of our Strategic Plan goals. Everyone in our district is critical to our success and part of the team.”
The rally included speakers, a celebration of teachers, fun videos to introduce employees to the new WPS Strategic Plan, games and music. Buses took teachers and staff to the stadium for the event.
Middle school and high school students will have a half-day orientation on August 13th and the school year begins August 14th.
