The League 42 youth baseball organization unveiled a new statue of baseball legend Jackie Robinson in a ceremony Monday evening at McAdams Park.

The previous statue was stolen and destroyed in January, but a new statue was created at a Colorado foundry from the original mold and it was brought to Wichita last week.

Community leaders joined League 42 officials for the unveiling, and there were several current and former Major League Baseball players who also attended, including former Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, former MLB pitcher Dellin Betances who played for the New York Yankees and New York Mets, and pitcher CC Sabathia, who played for Cleveland, the New York Yankees and Milwaukee.    The MLB organization donated funds to support the creation of the replacement statue.

League 42 president Bob Lutz said,  “We’re so happy to have this statue back where it belongs. And now we move forward, and some kind of normalcy comes back.”
