The Wichita Fire Department has identified the firefighter who died Thursday after battling a house fire near Haysville.
Ty Voth, who was 27, was a five-year veteran of the Fire Department. He was taken from the scene of a house fire Thursday afternoon in the 9800 block of South Laura, and died later at a hospital. President Tim Bush of Local 135 of the International Association of Firefighters said that Ty was a generational firefighter and he loved his job, he loved his Station 5, and he gave his life in service to the community.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Bush said the next steps will be to take care of Ty’s family and crew, and to look into the circumstances of death to make sure this never happens again. Bush said “When a brother dies, we are never the same but the mission of protecting life and property continues.”
A dignified transfer was held for Ty Voth on Saturday. It began at 11 a.m. at the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center at 1109 N. Minneapolis and was completed at Resthaven Mortuary at 11800 W. Kellogg.
