The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will be looking into a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened Wednesday night in Salina.

Salina police officers were called to a home at 544 North 12th around 7:30 p.m. to take a man into custody on a felony warrant.   The homeowner told officers that the man was in a detached garage just to the east.   Officers went into the garage and placed the 44 -year-old man under arrest, but they discovered that another man was inside.   The second man was holding a gun and he made threats to officers.  The man refused to leave the garage and a SWAT team was called to the scene along with Kansas Highway Patrol troopers.

While waiting for the SWAT team, officers saw a fire and smoke in the garage, then the door opened and a woman left followed by the man with the gun.  Shots were exchanged and the man was hit.   He was pronounced dead at the scene and he was identified as 25-year-old Jesse Wray of Salina.   The woman was treated at a hospital and released.   No law enforcement officers were injured.

The KBI will investigate and present its findings to the Saline County Attorney’s Office.
