An 11-month-old girl was placed into police protective custody after she was found in the I-135 canal Tuesday afternoon.
The child was seen around 1:30 p.m. in the canal near Mt. Vernon. Police and fire crews got her out of the canal and took her to a hospital for an evaluation.
Police have arrested the child’s father, identified as 34-year-old Vincent Perez, and he was booked into jail for aggravated endangering a child, aggravated battery and parole violations.
