A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a Wichita man to 13 years in prison for an animal cruelty case from 2022.

The District Attorney’s Office said 31-year-old Logan Cavender pleaded no-contest in May to ten counts of felony cruelty to animals. two misdemeanor counts of stalking and a misdemeanor count of breach of privacy.

The charges were filed in 2022 after ten dismembered cats were found in a rural area of the county.   Cavender was charged with stalking for a situation with his wife and babysitter while he was under investigation for animal cruelty, and the privacy charge resulted from a video that turned up during the investigation.  The video involved a family member that had been secretly videotaped in 2020.

According to the DA’s Office, each of the 13 counts had a maximum of one year in jail and the judge imposed the maximum, saying Cavender is a threat to public safety.   The judge also ruled that Cavender will have to register as a sex offender after his release from prison, because of the breach of privacy conviction.
