Kansas political leaders reacted along partisan lines to the announcement by President Biden that he was leaving the Presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.

Third District Congresswoman Sharice Davids issued a statement on social media, saying “President Biden has dedicated his life to serving our country and his time as our President has restored decency to the highest office. By stepping aside from the presidential race today, he has once again put the future of our country first. Now is the time for a new generation of leadership capable of defeating Donald Trump & fighting back against the growing extremism in our nation. Kansas families remain my top priority, & I am committed to doing everything in my power to deliver for them this November and beyond.”

The Kansas Democratic Party also posted on social media, stating,  “The Kansas Democratic Party would like to thank President Biden for his years of service to our country. We look forward to the process of nominating the Democrat who will defeat Donald Trump in November. We remain focused on supporting Kansas Democrats up and down the ballot.”

In another social media post, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly stated, “For more than five decades, President Biden has made it his life’s work to better our country for hardworking Americans. Above all, he has been firm in his desire to safeguard democracy in a time of hyper-polarization and divisiveness. I thank him for his service and steadfast leadership.”

Kansas Republican Senator Roger Marshall echoed calls from other GOP leaders in the U.S.:  “If Joe Biden is unable to serve another term, then he must resign right now. If he’s unfit to campaign, he should not have the nuclear codes – it’s that simple.”

First District Congressman Tracey Mann issued a press release Sunday afternoon:  “I am confident that the November elections will give Republicans success up and down the ballot. No matter the Democratic nominee, Republicans have better ideas to unite Americans and save the country. Americans continue to voice their desire for leadership that will restore order and get our country back on track, and I am committed to doing that.”
