Construction is getting started on a major renovation and expansion of a Wichita library branch.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the project at the Rockwell Branch Library at 5939 East 9th.

The project will add meeting and study rooms, a teen section, and a drive up window for easier materials pickup. The children’s room and other areas will undergo extensive renovations. The iconic fireplace will remain and a small “living room” will be built around it, providing great spaces for residents to lounge. Enhanced technology will also be added to the facility.

The construction actually begins on July 29th and it will be completed in December.  At that time, interior remodeling will begin, and that may cause interruptions in service over the following months. Library staff will communicate directly with customers about anticipated changes and will post on social media platforms and on the Library website.  The entire project is expected to be finished in late spring, 2025.
