A Wichita teenager has been sentenced to more than ten and a half years in prison for the shooting death of another teen last year.

A Sedgwick County judge handed a 128-month sentence to 17-year-old Makyh Townes, who pleaded guilty in May to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.   Townes was also sentenced to 31 months each on two counts of aggravated assault, but the sentences will run concurrently.

Townes was originally charged with second degree murder.  Prosecutors said he was recklessly handling a firearm on January 13th, 2023 at a home in the 2200 block of South Millwood, near Pawnee and Seneca.  The gun went off, killing 16-year-old Seaquori Smith.
