Police are investigating a shooting that left four teenagers with injuries in an east Wichita neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 2300 block of East Murdock around 3 a.m. Thursday, and they found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.  He was taken to a hospital in serious condition with injuries to his upper thigh and lower torso.    A short time later, three other teens walked into a hospital with gunshot wounds.  A 19-year-old male had a wound to his upper back, an 18-year-old man had an injury to his left elbow, and a 17-year-old boy was hit in the left thigh.

Police said the victims were walking west on Murdock with a group when two men brought a gun and opened fire.  This is believed to be related to a separate incident that happened earlier at Central and Oliver, where a man was assaulted during a confrontation between two groups.   Investigators believe that there was gang involvement in the incidents.

Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan issued a statement in response to the shooting:

“The alarming presence of firearms in the hands of our youth is a grave concern. Gun violence, especially among teenagers, not only threatens lives but also tears apart the fabric of our community. We must come together to address this issue, enforce our laws, and ensure that our streets are safe for everyone. We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. Our children deserve to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from the threat of violence.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact investigators at 268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
