Community leaders and residents of Wichita’s Delano neighborhood got together Wednesday morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and sign dedication for the city’s newest park.
Millwood Park at 501 North McLean was created by the City Council in September, 2023. The park’s name is taken from Millwood Avenue, which dead ends in the middle of the park.
The park has over 50 mature trees and the city’s Park and Recreation Department has planted more since the area was designated as park land.
The city planned to sell the property to developers, but Delano residents voiced opposition and called for the property to become park land and add to the city’s tree canopy.
