McConnell Air Force Base had an economic impact of more than $1 billion to Wichita and the greater Kansas community during fiscal year 2023.  That’s according to a report issued Monday by based officials.

The base estimated an impact of $1,002,025,594, through almost ten thousand direct and indirect jobs created to support McConnell’s mission of global mobility.

Military and civilian salaries totaled a combined $517,476,663, and indirect income amounted to $463,969,576 that was generated from wages allocated to jobs that support McConnell employees, such as restaurant and retail jobs around Wichita.

McConnell employed about 4,800 military personnel, including airmen from the active-duty 22nd Air Refueling Wing, reservists from the 931st Air Refueling Wing and Air National Guard members from the 184th Wing.

More than 1,000 civilians were employed at the base, including general schedule, federal wage board and other civilian employees.

For on-base expenditures, McConnell spent over $12.1 million on construction and purchases, including about $9 million to repair the Child Development Center.
