The Wichita Public Library has announced the book that will be the focus of next year’s Big Read event.
The Library has chosen “Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body,” by Rebekah Taussig. The book tells her story of treatment for a malignant cancer that affected her spine. Two years of treatment left her cancer-free but paralyzed from the waist down. After searching for stories that reflected her disability, she decided to create a story of her own.
The selection was made in partnership with Envision, the Kansas Leadership Center and the Sedgwick County Department of Aging and Disabilities. There will be six weeks of programs and special events that will explore the lives of people with disabilities in Wichita, and the lives of those who care for them and advocate for them.
The Big Read will kick off on March 15th, 2025 and conclude on April 26th.
