1. Today is the federal holiday of Juneteenth – a day that marks the official end of Slavery when in June of 1865 Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston with an order that read:

“The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The Freedmen are advised to remain at their present homes, and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts: and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.
By order of Major-General Granger, F.W. Emery, Maj. & A.A.G.”

This came 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

2. San Francisco Giants legend Willie Mays, nicknamed the “Say Hey Kid,” died yesterday at 93. The center fielder was considered the greatest all-around player in baseball history and was the oldest living Hall of Famer.

3. It’s kind of like a Netflix Theme Park and the streaming giant plans to open two of their “Netflix House” next year.  One in Pennsylvania and one closer to home in Dallas. These huge complexes will feature a wide array of shopping outlets, eateries and experience based activities tied to the streamer’s major franchises like “Bridgerton,” “Stranger Things” and “Squid Game.”.  After season 3, episode 5, the line to the Bridgerton experience is gonna be really long

4. They say “money can’t buy happiness,”, I believe it can rent it for a while. However, a new survey from Moneyzine.com found that happiness could be a conduit to more money. Data shows that making the conscious choice to be happier, regardless of circumstances, leads to “more money, better relationships, and more (overall) success in life…not vice versa.”

5. and it is such a rookie move when we see it happen in the movies.  Someone is hiding and then their smartphone goes off.  You gotta turn that thing off . In Florida, Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, were on the hunt for a man who was running from multiple warrants for his arrest. His hiding spot was blown when his smartphone started to ring. The man was soon found after he was heard saying, “I don’t own a car, I don’t have a warranty and I don’t care if it expires.”
