A report of a domestic disturbance led to a four-hour standoff in Wichita’s Old Town district Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were called to the 600 block of East Douglas around 12:45 p.m. when a woman reported that her boyfriend had assaulted her with a weapon. She was not hurt but the man locked himself inside an apartment and officers blocked traffic on Douglas between St. Francis and Mead. The residents of the apartment building evacuated or they were told to shelter in place.
A SWAT team was called to the scene and the man was taken into custody around 4:45 p.m.
