Wichita school board members voted unanimously to delay action until later this month on the sale of a recently-closed elementary school to the City of Wichita for use as a homeless shelter and resource center.

Park Elementary School at 1025 North Main was one of six schools closed by the district at the end of the school year in order to deal with a budget shortfall.   At the school board’s regular meeting Monday evening, board member Hazel Stabler moved to table action on the sale of Park until the June 27th board meeting.  She said she wants more information on the city’s plan for the building before voting on the transfer.

Board president Stan Reeser said a workshop meeting may be scheduled before the June 27th meeting to provide more information on the city’s plan for Multi-Agency Center (MAC) that would be established at the former school.

The Wichita City Council voted Tuesday to delay action until their July 2nd meeting, since the school board voted for a delay.
