Special Olympics Kansas will present its 2024 Summer Games Friday through Sunday at Maize High School.

Athletes, families, volunteers and supporters will be involved in competitive events in track and field, soccer, tennis and bocce.   There will also be opening and closing ceremonies, a talent show, athlete parades, healthy athlete screenings and a number of interactive events.

The theme for this year’s event is “Together Talented,” as the three-day event showcases talents and achievements of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Proclamations from Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Maize Mayor Pat Stivers were presented in an opening ceremony at noon Friday on the tennis court at Maize High School.  The governor’s proclamation recognizes May as National Tennis Month in Kansas, and the Mayor’s proclamation recognizes the local commitment to inclusivity and sports.  Special Olympics Kansas has partnered with the United State Tennis Association Missouri Valley for Tennis Month activities.
