The City of Wichita reported an air quality Tuesday that is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The city’s Air Quality Index is 121, with the main pollutant as PM 2.5 due to smoke in the area.   The rating is considered unhealthy for children and people with chronic health problems, and they are urged to limit their time outdoors.

Other areas of the country have also reported problems.  Four states are seeing the effects of wildfires in western Canada, with air quality alerts issued Monday for Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota as smoke and haze drifted over the region.

As the smoke shifts south, Topeka, Kansas and Kansas City are dealing with the worst air quality in the country. An air quality alert was issued for parts of Iowa through late Tuesday. The smoke is expected to linger in parts of the Midwest through Tuesday before a cold front will bring rain and clearer conditions.
