Today we honor Navy Veteran Martha Richardson and the American Red Cross. Imagine being fast asleep upstairs when you’re woken by the chaos of an impaired driver slamming into the side of your house – destroying a large part of it including the stairs. That’s exactly what happened to Martha. Now the house is unlivable, and Martha said the weeks that followed were a nightmare.  However, she credits the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team for making the best out of the situation. The Red Cross arrived along with first responders and they had blankets, food, toiletry bags and more. Most importantly, once they identified Martha as a Veteran they put her in touch with another Veteran and the Hero Care Network hotline, ultimately helping Martha find a new place to live. Thank you to the Red Cross and other first responders and THANK YOU Martha for your service.
