The National Weather Service has reported that drought conditions have worsened across central and southern areas of Kansas over the past two months.

In its climate and drought report for April, the Weather Service said severe drought conditions exist over central Kansas and parts of southwest and south central areas of the state.   A severe drought means crop or pasture losses are likely, water shortages will be common, and water restrictions will be imposed.

The report said the drought has worsened over the southwest quarter of the state and conditions have improved in northern and eastern areas.

The Weather Service said beneficial rainfall is expected over the next week, and it’s hoped that will bring some relief.
