1. David Pecker was the first witness to take the stand in the hush money trial of former President Donald Trump with testimony that revealed Trump’s plans to influence the 2016 elections with fake stories.  Trump continued to push the boundaries of his gag order by posting on truth social about the blockades and thousands of people being kept away from the courthouse, which was a complete lie when only a couple dozen people were outside.  The trial resumes tomorrow.

2. The Biden administration announced a rule yesterday that would increase the salary thresholds required to exempt salaried workers from federal overtime pay requirements. Starting this July, the office said the salary threshold would rise from the current $35,568 to $43,888, and then jump to $58,656 in January 2025.

3. More good job news! The Federal Trade Commission voted 3-2 in approving a final rule banning most employers from using non-compete clauses nationwide. The rule will take effect in 120 days; The FTC estimates about 30 million workers are currently prevented from joining competitors due to these clauses.

4. If a new pet ordinance goes into effect, and you own a dog or cat in the Wichita city limits, getting them microchipped would be mandatory.  I think this is a fantastic idea. Now if we can just get people to stop shaving their dogs in the park, because that makes sense and happens all the time and I’m 100% sure that’s NOT what they were doing.

5. And a Belgian 9-year-old named Cooper has been crowned the winner in Europe’s seagull screeching competition. LAWD, can you imagine being this kids parents.

Cooper:     “Mummy, I want a puppy.

Mummy:    “No”

Cooper:    “I’ll make that noise again”

Mummy:  “Oh no..anything but that, okay, I’ll get you a puppy”
