Officials with Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita have confirmed that the company is placing limits on overtime and hiring, as production declines at Boeing on the 737 MAX jetliner.
Reuters reported that MAX production has had a significant decline in recent weeks as federal regulators increase factory inspections. Boeing reported that deliveries were down by half in March compared to a year ago. This is a result of the mid-air blowout of a door panel on a MAX jet operated by Alaska Airlines in January.
Spirit released a statement in response to the report:
“Spirit is actively taking measures to drive stability, maintain flexibility, respond to a dynamic situation, and position our workforce for the future. This includes aligning our production to support our customer’s rate profile, implementing training to enhance the skills of our teams in our facilities, and, in the near-term, limiting overtime as well as hiring for specific roles, including contractors.”
