The Greater Wichita YMCA has announced Monday, May 20th as the reopening date for a branch that was damaged in the April, 2022 tornado that hit Andover.
The Dr. Jim Farha Andover YMCA shut down after the tornado, and extensive upgrades have been made to the building. There has been a 44-foot Luckey Climber structure, an expanded gymnastics area and an indoor gathering space for families that will be called the Farha Family Park.
A public open house has been scheduled for Friday, May 17th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing people to walk through the building and talk with staff. Building facilities and equipment will not be available for use. On Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th, there will be limited access to the lobby to allow people to sign up for memberships and youth programs.
The water park reopened in May, 2023, and temporary sites in Andover and Augusta have been used to provide families with access to the Early Learning Center and the various camp, sports and gymnastics programs.
