A Virginia man is dead after a crash on Interstate 70 west of Salina late Sunday night.
The crash was reported shortly before midnight in the westbound lanes of I-70 close to mile marker 240, about 12 miles west of Salina. The crash scene was between U.S. Highway 81 and the Lincoln-Saline County line.
Troopers said an eastbound car crossed the center median and hit a westbound semi. The car ended up on the westbound shoulder and the semi went into a ditch on the north side of the highway.
The driver of the car, 42-year-old Michael Fussell of Roanoke, Virginia, was dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 33-year-old Chicago man, was taken to Salina Regional Hospital with minor injuries. A passenger in the semi, a 28-year-old Milwaukee man, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Westbound I-70 was closed as troopers investigated the crash, and it was reopened around 7:30 a.m.
